It’s LAS Awareness Month! Article 1 – Why LIGHTS is an Ideal Role Model
This article is going to be different. It’s not going to be about LIGHTS, the singer, but about LIGHTS, the person, and LIGHTS, the ideal role model.
I searched the internet far and wide, asking fellow users “what makes a good role model”. One of the best answers I got was “To show us the world isn’t so shitty.”.
There are people out there that have searched far and wide, for years for somebody to look up to. Well, I found mine. LIGHTS Poxleitner. It couldn’t have been an easier decision for me. I consider her my role model and look up to her, and you might too, for the following reasons:

1.Positive choice making: Let’s face it, eyes are watching her, and ears are listening to her, no matter what size. Role models must be aware that the choices they make don’t only impact themselves, but also the people who may regard them as a super hero. Someday when we may find ourselves in a similar predicament, or situation, we would think, “what did LIGHTS do when she was in the same situation”. As a role model, LIGHTS does not just “talk the talk” and tell others to make good choices, but she also puts them into action herself.

2.LIGHTS is well rounded: LIGHTS is more than just one thing. She is more than a singer. She is also a sister, a daughter, a musician, song writer, and a whole bunch of other things. When her fans see that LIGHTS is many different things, they learn that they don’t have to pigeon-hole themselves in order to be successful. There are some fans, who, before hearing LIGHTS, couldn’t sing, draw or who were super camera shy, and they couldn’t bring themselves to even try to sing, draw, or give the camera a chance. But, after hearing her sounds, and getting to know who LIGHTS really is, overcame their individual barriers and began to sing like on the fan CD, or draw, like in the fan scrapbook.
3.LIGHTS demonstrates confidence in who she is: “whatever you choose to do with your life, be proud of the person you’ve become”. LIGHTS is super proud of who she is. It may have been a long road to get to where she is but she shares the lessons she has learned, the strength achieved and the character developed along the way. LIGHTS continues to strive, while being completely happy with where she is at the same time.

Now, I have moved around a lot as a child. But I was always in the same province, and I believe it made me who I am today. But with LIGHTS, her parents were missionaries, and have travelled across the world and lived in a couple third world countries, and throughout all the travelling, I’m sure it helped shape who we all admire today.
LIGHTS is constantly looking to help people in need in third world countries. Always tweeting out to her tens of thousand followers on twitter to help out.
LIGHTS is definitely somebody anyone can admire.
Nobody expects LIGHTS to be super human, but she is damn well close to it.
This is why LIGHTS is my ideal role model
